iPhone app for Glaucoma Eye Drops

Andreas Wolter, M.D.
New York Ophthalmologist
Andreas Wolter, M.D., a NY Ophthalmologist at Seeta Eye Centers with offices in Poughkeepsie, Fishkill and Carmel, New York shared information about a free iPhone app to remind glaucoma patients to take their eye drops and medications. “Helping glaucoma patients to remember to use their eye drops is an important part of glaucoma management. It is a real problem when patients don’t remember to use their glaucoma eye drops or take their other medications,” explained Dr. Wolter.  “The free smartphone EyeDROPS app should help us get better patient compliance and consistency with their glaucoma medications and thus hopefully better control of the eye disease.”

The EyeDROPS app prompts users to enter information about the eye drops they are taking, including dosages and schedules. The app then alerts patients via their phones when it’s time to put in their eye drops. The app keeps a record of medication usage and informs the patient of the next scheduled dosing time. The free EyeDROPS app even allows patients to take a photo of each bottle to avoid confusion when taking more than one kind of eye drop. The EyeDROPS app is available for Android phones through Google Play and for the Apple iPhone through the App Store.

Patients who wish to learn more about the EyeDROPS app should feel free to call Seeta Eye Centers and schedule an eye examination by calling 845-454-1025, visiting Seeta Eye Centers or facebook.com/seetaeyecenters.

LASIK in NY with Flex Plans-Now is the Time!

“For NY patients who want bladeless LASIK now is the time to consider using their 2013 Flex Plan,” commented Stacey Koch, Refractive Surgery Coordinator at Seeta Eye Centers with offices in Poughkeepsie, Fishkill and Carmel, New York. “January is a popular month for New Year’s resolutions which often includes self improvements like LASIK. If you or a family member has Flex Plan funds to use, this is a good time to make LASIK affordable.”

Many employers offer Flex Plans-Flexible Spending Accounts or FSA’s. These plans allow you to have money taken out of your paycheck over time to pay for LASIK. What is even more appealing about Flex Plans is that money is withheld in Pre-Tax dollars allowing you to get extra tax savings.

Patients who wish to learn more about Bladeless LASIK or schedule a Free Bladeless LASIK Consultation should feel free to call Seeta Eye Centers by calling 845-454-1025, visiting Seeta Eye Centers or facebook.com/seetaeyecenters.

NY Seniors Aging Eyes Have Better Vision

“NY seniors should be comforted by knowing that aging eyes have better vision than ever,” noted Cataract Surgeon & Eye Specialist Satish Modi, M.D. of Seeta Eye Centers with offices in Poughkeepsie, Fishkill and Carmel, New York. According to recent publications in Ophthalmology, there has been a significant decrease is vision loss in older Americans. In fact, the prevalence of activity-limiting visual impairment is decreasing and has been decreasing-and this is really great news for seniors. “While the study wasn’t terribly specific, I believe that better cataract surgery and lens implants, better diabetes control and treatment of diabetic retinopathy and a sharp decrease in smoking all play a role in why seniors now have better overall chances of preserving their eye health and vision,” Dr. Modi stated.

Bladeless laser cataract surgery combined with advanced technology lens implants has become routine. We rarely see complications and the results are excellent,” stated Dr. Modi. Years ago, people waited until a cataract was so bad that even a poor surgical result was better than living with a cataract. Today, when the presence of a cataract impairs either the quality of vision or the quality of life, the techniques and procedures allow for safe and effective cataract surgery to be performed.

Today, only 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. smoke cigarettes as compared to 1 in 3 in the 1980s. Smoking is a major risk factor for macular degeneration, which is one of the most common vision impairing eye diseases in seniors. Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness and age and obesity are leading risk factors for diabetes. Even though diabetes rates in the U.S. continue to climb, better therapies are now available to prevent and treat diabetes-related eye health vision problems. To some extent, seniors have helped preserve eye health and vision by taking the step of having regular eye exams which are quite important for everyone as they age, especially people with diabetes and other health conditions that can lead to vision loss.

Symptoms of Open Angle Glaucoma: What You Should Know!

Hudson Valley NY Ophthalmologist Satish Modi, M.D. clarified information about the symptoms of open angle glaucoma and what you should know. But Dr. Modi, how can I have glaucoma-I see well and I have no symptoms?” is a question that many patients have asked with great surprise at their glaucoma diagnosis,” commented Dr. Modi of Seeta Eye Centers with offices in Poughkeepsie, Fishkill and Carmel, New York.

The most common form of glaucoma-Primary Open Angle Glaucoma-has no symptoms that affected patients can readily be aware of. This is especially threatening as among African-American and Hispanic populations glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness. Further-primary open angle glaucoma-is hereditary. The Nottingham Glaucoma Study published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology evaluated the risk that siblings of glaucoma patients would themselves develop glaucoma within their lifetime. The study demonstrated that there was a strong likelihood that family members of glaucoma patients were at greater risk and that siblings were 5 times more likely to develop glaucoma by age 70. “This is why we strongly recommend that siblings of glaucoma patients and glaucoma suspects be screened for glaucoma, each and every year, said Dr. Modi.

There is a real need for regular eye examinations and glaucoma screening by an eye doctor in order to help you preserve your eye health and vision. If you or someone you know has a question about glaucoma, glaucoma symptoms, glaucoma risk or to schedule a glaucoma eye exam please feel free to call Seeta Eye Centers and schedule an eye examination by calling 845-454-1025, visiting Seeta Eye Centers or facebook.com/seetaeyecenters.

My Hudson Valley LASIK Story

“My experience and LASIK story with Dr. Modi’s office in the Hudson Valley was positive beyond my highest expectations.  Frustrated with glasses since 6th grade, I watched with great interest as lasik surgery gained acceptance. Anxious about the risks, I seriously considered making the trek to NYC in search of the most competent LASIK surgeon. A medical professional myself, the success stories I heard from Dr. Modi’s patients led me to set up a consultation.  From that first meeting with Stacey, my confidence in Dr. Modi’s office was affirmed.  Stacey patiently educated me and my wife and removed all our fears.  The procedure itself was amazingly quick and painless. On the way home (though advised not to), I already noticed I could see better than ever. The recovery time was a blink and, as promised, I was back to work Monday. The follow up was thorough and, ten years later, my only disappointment is that I didn’t get the surgery even sooner.  The Hudson Valley is fortunate to have a surgeon with Dr. Modi’s talent. He is the best of the best.”
